Not everyone can say they started a sport from scratch!  This is exactly what happened in 2010, the first trial Beach Tennis session was organised by Kasia Chmielewska and took place at Yellowave in Brighton, attended by the ITF, LTA, Julie Hobbs and Visit Brighton.  Kasia immediately developed a passion for the sport and set up regular sessions on the Brighton Beach Volleyball court, starting of with just 4 people playing.

A few months later Julie Salmon joined Kasia and they founded Beach Tennis UK.  Since then BTUK has run numerous regular sessions in Brighton, over 35 Beach Tennis Tournaments ranging from local to International events, including the European Beach Tennis Championships in 2013 & 2014 and the British Beach Tennis Championships.  BTUK has played an integral part over the last 10 years in growing and developing the sport in the UK, something we are very proud of.

Beach Tennis is now available to play in other areas of the UK, not just Brighton –  Isle of Wight, Poole, London, Bath and Weston-Super-Mare.  With more people playing Beach Tennis in the UK than ever before, more sessions and new venues are planned in the near future.

We had a number of exciting events planned for this year to celebrate, however, Covid-19 put a stop to that.  We were not going to give in and were determined to have some sort of celebration and were delighted to celebrate on a small scale with a charity fun tournament (fancy dress), raising funds for a newly formed local charity, Kennedy St CiO.  We ran an American Tournament, had a competition of the best fancy dress followed by drinks and nibbles and raffle/auction to raise money for the charity in our adopted clubhouse, the Brighton Sailing Club.
